There are times when a tooth cannot be saved. Teeth are usually lost for one of three main reasons: Decay, Gum disease or Trauma.
It is often necessary to remove a damaged tooth before placing an implant. Here at Market House we pride ourselves on being able to remove teeth carefully in such a way that maximises the quality and volume of bone, in turn ensuring a longer-lasting, more successful implant and restoration.

Our success stories
The problem
Topsy presented to us with a missing front tooth after tripping on the pavement in town and knocking it out.
The solution
The tooth had been knocked out very cleanly, and after discussing the patient’s options with her, we provided her with an immediate temporary front tooth. For the longer term, Topsy wished to replace the missing tooth but did not want a denture or bonded bridge, as these come with the possible risk of falling out. Her preference was for a fixed solution, and it was agreed that a single tooth dental implant and crown was the answer.

The problem
Dennis came to the surgery and presented with a tooth which was too decayed to restore. This tooth was situated near the front of his mouth and his other teeth were healthy. He did not want a removable solution, he wanted it fixed and to feel like one of his own natural teeth.
The solution
Dennis preferred the idea of a fixed new tooth, and we agreed a dental implant would be the best option.

The problem
Janet presented with severe gum disease, chronic pain, a lower denture which was very painful and an upper denture that was very loose-fitting. We walked Janet through a variety of options with regards how best to attend to her oral situation.
The solution
Janet’s choice of restoration was a new upper denture, retained with the teeth she naturally had. This was beautifully secure and restored her confidence to smile broadly. For her lower teeth, she chose to have a complete new lower denture, retained by two dental implants. These implants now hold her lower denture securely in position.

The problem
Bob had lost his lower front six teeth due to infection. He was very keen to have his missing teeth replaced but did not like the idea of a denture, which could be prone to moving around.
The solution
Bob’s preference was to have teeth put back with dental implants. To keep costs reasonable, we attached the six teeth to two dental implants with a restoration called a bridge. As you can see from the photographs, these work very successfully indeed and Bob has been enjoying the benefits of this bridge for nearly 5 years now.

The problem
Caroline visited the surgery with an upper right side bridge that had succumbed to bad tooth decay and had to be removed.
The solution
We provided Caroline with a temporary solution, which ensured she did not have a gap in her teeth from the time the decayed bridge tooth was removed, to the time when the space was restored. For Caroline, the solution involved the placement of two Straumann dental implants, and at the same time we repaired the damaged bone ridge.

Roger-James Scholes
Roger-James represents the 3rd generation of dentists at Market House and continues the work of his father’s 40 years of care.
Roger graduated from King’s College, London and has been working in general dentistry for over 20 years. One of his greatest pleasures is restoring mouths which have run into difficulty over the years and seeing the transformation in patient confidence, health and vibrancy. Having been mentored by previous skilled and caring dentists at the practice and consultant specialists, he spends much of his time carrying out complex restorative cases. Arriving at creative solutions with the patient to optimise their oral health for their lifestyle and stage of life.
